Exams must be proctored in person in the United States
Proctors must be approved by the course instructor prior to exam dates
All policies and guidelines must be followed by students, proctors, and instructors

What are my responsibilities as a student?

Activate and use your Alfred University email and Canvas accounts. Check email daily for important correspondences.
At least 3 days prior to each exam, locate a proctor candidate to proctor your exam in person. Students can typically find candidates to proctor the exams for free, although some proctors may charge a fee. Proctors must have access to a computer, email, a printer, and the ability to convert hardcopy documents to PDF. Proctors must also follow the "Guidelines for Exam Proctors."
Provide the proctoring candidate with the Alfred University email addresses for you and your course instructor.
Inform the proctoring candidate to seek email approval from the instructor at least 3 days prior to each exam.
Arrange with the proctor a suitable and quiet exam location in the United States.
Negotiate and pay any costs associated with proctoring services.
Note: The instructor retains the right to deny or revoke the approval of a proctoring candidate for any reason.

Who can be a proctor?

Certified teachers currently employed at primary and secondary schools located in the United States.
Instructors and professors currently employed at colleges and universities located in the United States.
Administrators and staff members currently employed by testing centers affiliated with schools, colleges, and universities located in the United States.

Who CANNOT be a proctor?

Co-workers, supervisors, employees, and subordinates.
Relatives, spouses, significant others, and residents sharing your address.
Friends, peers, coaches, and personal acquaintances.
Anyone not listed in the "who can be a proctor" section above.
Note: Any proctor candidate failing to provide a valid email address, identification, and phone number affiliated with a legitimate school, college or university will be denied approval as a proctor.

Tips for a Successful Exam

Bring a valid photo ID and your Alfred University ID number; otherwise the proctor will not administer the exam.
Your instructor will inform you beforehand about whether a calculator is allowed. However, do not bring unnecessary items to the exam. Store any unapproved items out of site while taking the exam. The proctor will temporarily confiscate certain items such as phones and watches.
Use the restroom prior to arriving, as you will not be able to leave the testing site during the exam.
Listen carefully to the proctor's verbal instructions and follow any written instructions included within the exam. The proctor will initiate the timer for the exam, be present for the duration of the exam, and inform you when your time has expired. The proctor will collect the exam and send it to your instructor for grading.

Failure to Comply

Failing to comply with any part of this agreement including delaying proctor arrangements, missing exam dates, providing false or misleading information, or attempting to deceive either the instructor or proctor may result in one or more of the following consequences:

0% or loss of credit on an exam with no opportunity to retake it.
Failure of the course with no refund.
Formal charges of academic dishonesty.
Legal action in cases of identity fraud, mail fraud, or wire fraud.
