Düsseldorf Summer Artist Residency
Dates
June 8 to June 29, 2025
The Program
This intimately scaled artist residency will take place for three weeks at our spacious graduate painting studio facility in Düsseldorf, Germany. The program is intended for emerging and established artists to come together in a supportive and inspiring environment to promote the exchange of ideas and critical dialog for the research and development of new work.
Eight participants will be able to take part in this exciting opportunity. Centrally located in the Oberbilk neighborhood of Düsseldorf, the studios are easily accessed by tram, U-Bahn and bus. Since the founding of the Kunstakademie in 1773, Dusseldorf has been a leading center of painting with an extensive network of world-class museums, contemporary art galleries and non-profit exhibition spaces. The city is both a hub and a crossroads for artists and arts professionals seeking a creative and supportive experience. You can visit alfredpainting.com to view studio images and to learn more about Düsseldorf.
Housing will be located in an apartment hotel easily accessible by public transportation. Participants will meet in Düsseldorf upon arrival at the hotel. An orientation and museum and gallery excursions each week will be led by Professor of Painting, Stephanie McMahon. The program will culminate in an open studio exhibition and reception, open to the public.
Program cost includes housing and studio, insurance, program fee, and 1-month transportation pass for all local and regional public transit in Germany. Cost will vary dependent on participant enrollment.
Total program cost per participant is $3,615 for a shared room or $4,670 for a private room for five to seven. A minimum of 5 participants is required to run the program.
The price will be reduced to $3,100 for a shared room or $4,155 for a private room if eight participants enroll.
The shared room option is only available if a suitable roommate can be identified within the applicant pool (i.e. an applicant who has also agreed to the shared room option and has entered a joint agreement with said potential roommate).
Airfare, meals and museum entrance fees are not included in the program costs.
