Taking Less Traditional Career Pathways
When James Eddlestone first visited AU's campus, he loved what he saw, and what he felt. The professors immediately welcomed him, and he knew Alfred's small school benefits couldn't be beat. James is now a junior, and the meaningful relationships he's gained with students and faculty have only grown since day one.
Majoring in Mechanical Engineering was a straightforward decision for James. He’s always had an affinity and aptitude for mechanical systems and projects, and he knows he wants to find a career in the field after he graduates. James had an opportunity to work in the field as an undergraduate student: he received an APEX internship as a fabricator and assistant designer. James’ internship took him to Art in Metal LLC in Tempe, Arizona.
“Having the opportunity to experience a less-traditional aspect of engineering certainly broadened my horizons as to what pathways exist for my field,” he adds. After he graduates, he’ll scout out jobs that will allow him to utilize his mechanical skillset and focus his efforts on management.
James has been vice president of the AU Trap and Skeet Club and has also been a member of Saxon Racing, a group that competes in a variety of challenges using an off-road vehicle they design and construct. When it comes to finding a good meal, he likes to frequent Alex’s, The Terra Cotta, and The Jet. He also enjoys visiting Foster Lake.
